The Benefits of Proper Rest and Sleep in Ayurveda

Any person must get enough sleep to stay healthy. Sleep provides the body with a chance to utilize its energy for healing and repairing physical damages that accumulate during active hours. The body cannot repair the harm caused by stress and tension if it does not get adequate sleep. The body starts to degrade as a result.

EFFECTS OF INADEQUATE OR EXCESSIVE SLEEP

Sleeping too much or too little is harmful. Too much sleep disrupts the kapha dosha while too little sleep upsets the vata dosha. A disruption of the vata dosha causes tissues to be weaker and more prone to infection. Disturbance of the kapha dosha causes tissues to become lethargic and weak.

WHAT IS THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF SLEEP?

Typically between 7 and 8 hours. a little less and a little more, respectively, during the long summer days and long winter nights. If you have a kapha nature or imbalance, you should eat a bit less, and if you have a vata nature or imbalance, a little more. Sync your sleep cycle with the sun. Go to bed at ten o’clock. Awaken at or about sunrise. If you are kapha, a little earlier. If you have vata, a little later. Wake up just before sunrise if you have a pitta nature or imbalance.

DOES SLEEP QUALITY OR QUANTITY MATTER MORE?

The quality of our sleep is more significant than how much time we spend sleeping. In order to maintain both your body and mind’s health, you should get plenty of deep sleep. According to Ayurveda, this involves going to bed around 10:00 and rising at sunrise. A person whose lifestyle involves regular Yoga Nidra or meditation may need less sleep because of the deep sleep these activities.

TIPS FOR ACHIEVING A HEALTHIER SLEEP SCHEDULE

  1. Provide yourself with the motivation to rise earlier.
    Establish a healthy morning routine that includes time for walking or meditation.
  2. Create a schedule.
    First, set an alarm, and if necessary, a second alarm. After a month of doing this, it will become embedded in your routine and a habit. This is referred to as “samskara” in yoga. Your body will get adapted to it.
    It won’t be a good idea to sleep in late.
  3. Establish Discipline.
    It will require discipline at first. You’ll make yourself all kinds of reasons for why you shouldn’t get out of bed today and why tomorrow is a better day to start. It requires resolution and discipline because of this. Timing the alarm. Remind yourself of your desire for wellness and perfect health.
