Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system of medicine that is still widely practised in India today. The ayurvedic approach to health is holistic and considers the mind and body as one entity. According to Ayurveda, disease arises when there is an imbalance in the doshas or universal principles that govern life. Ayurvedic therapies are designed to restore this balance and help the body heal itself. Ayurveda is effective in the treatment of a wide range of diseases.
Ayurveda has a wide variety of therapies that can be used to achieve this balance, including Panchakarma, herbal remedies, aromatherapy, and massage. In recent years, Ayurveda has become increasingly popular in the West as people search for natural healing without any side effects.
Vamanam (Medically induced vomiting)
Vamana is a technique for triggering vomiting in a person by using natural products and herbs to clean out the toxins in the respiratory system and sinuses. It is a highly effective therapy for persons with respiratory and sinus problems. Kapha is one of the three doshas in the body; an excess of Kapha in the body can cause a variety of digestive and respiratory problems. Vamananam balances the Kapha dosha in the body by regulating it.
The person is prepared for Vamanam by undergoing Snehakarma and Swedanakarma procedures. Then given a particular medical mixture while seated in a comfortable position at the period when the body’s potential to make Kapha is at its peak, known as Kapha Kala about 6 to 10 a.m. This specific mix, usually made with milk, rock salt, and honey, stimulates the digestive lining, and this will trigger vomiting. As the body begins to naturally eliminate the toxins, the vomiting will eventually stop once all of the medicine has been eliminated.

Prior steaming of the person’s face and neck is required to make the face and neck responsive to the drug. Then the specifically medicated oil dropped through the nasal opening.
